Walking 310 Miles in Her Shoes

August 7, 2008

If you can’t swing by the gallery, you can call the Walk-line from your own cell phone. Foster hopes, that no matter where you are walking, there will be an ethereal sense that you’re walking together.

This “opportunity to have an accelerated or intensified social experience” doesn’t come without hesitations. This year’s walk is more of an experiment to see how, and if, a universal walk, one with multiple walkers in different locations, would work. Foster isn’t sure what she’ll say on the phone, and the idea of forced conversation may distract from the experience of walking.

“From last year I know there’s a really nice rhythm you get into being in your own head and being in this very quiet world where you’re not having to answer email and phone calls.

“I won’t really know until I experience it if it’s something that takes away from the walk, but I feel like it won’t. I really feel that it will be another area of discovery and research.”

You can also walk with Foster via her website here where she will be writing about the walk and posting pictures via her cell phone.

The Virtual Pilgrimage Machine and Walk-line will be open until Sat August 16: Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2-4pm and Saturdays from 2-5pm. The Walk-line number is: (902) EYE 7753 or (902) 393 7753.
