Never Have I Ever…
August 21, 2008
Carrier landed curatorial opportunity as a part of her internship at the gallery this past summer. Gallery owner Guy Bérubé offers interns a chance to curate a show, and boost their CVs.
“I did volunteer work in New York for like the entire ten years I was there, and got maybe a hug when I was done, says Bérubé. “It’s much more worth it than saying she’s cleaned my bathrooms or made bank deposits for me.”
For her part, Carrier not only curated the show, but is also displaying watercolour and sculpture works—two mediums she’s not worked with before.
“It’s interesting it’s a lot of trying and failing and discovering things about the medium that you’ve never thought you’d be able to do with it.”
Beyond working with new mediums, the other artists in the show put their own spin on the theme. Kristin Stoesz is illustrating all the different things she wanted to be, like an astronaut or a police man. Becky Armstrong is illustrating who she would be based on the different paths she could have taken.
Never Have I Ever will feature works in a variety of media, and is a great chance to see young artists exhibiting outside of the University of Ottawa for the first time.
“It’s not only a lot of interesting work it’s also a lot of interesting thinking about who you are, who you could have been, and what you are not.”
Never Have I Ever will be on display from August 30-September 4 at La Petite Mort Gallery.
