Votes for Sleepwalkers

October 2, 2008

Participants use software technology, like Pure Data, for media manipulation in real time. But the works take on a more homemade feel with the use of various types of circuit building.

“All the pieces are unique. It is nothing that you would expect to see. They’re not like something else, or what you normally would see in new media art exhibitions.”

VIVO started SLAB to help assistance artists interested in new media, but don’t have the financial means to experiment with it. By building a strong community for new media SLAB hopes to foster an experimental spirit in the community.

“It is inspiring to watch people produce their work. All that is exposed over all these periods of time…It’s a very friendly supportive atmosphere. I think that’s something everyone enjoys. You find kinship with people in ideas and experimentation.”

Votes for Sleepwalkers will be on display from Thu October 2 – Sat October 11 at Vancouver’s VIVO Media Arts Centre. Stop in on Tue October 7 at 7pm for a Q&A and a live performance with the mucial typewriter.
